Da Fen Oil Painting Village引見Da Fen Village is a village under the jurisdiction of Buji Neighborhood Committee of Longgang District, Shenzhen City. The village is of reputable fame due to its scale of oil panting industry. In November, 2004, Da Fen Oil Painting Village was named by China Cultural Department” as “Cultural Industry Model Base”. Before the Reform-and-Open-up Policy, the villagers mostly lived on farming, with per capita annual revenue of less than RMB 200. In 1989, Mr. Huang Jiang, a Hong Kong artist came to Da Fen. He rented the residential buildings and hired art students to do the creation, imitation, collection and export of the oil paintings, thus bringing the special industry of oil painting to Da Fen Village and the package services he created had given its original shape as an Oil Painting Village. With more and more artists and art students coming to Da Fen, another two large-scale companies that specialized in the collection and export of oil painting came into being, and a lot of artists supplied them with their paintings. The scale, as well as the reputation of the village grew each year and hence the Da Fen Oil Painting Village as we know it today. The scale of the Da Fen Oil Painting Village According to the most updated statistics in May 2008, there are now almost 800 shops in Da Fen Village that run oil painting business and over 5000 artists and art students reside in the village permanently. Da Fen Village mainly relies on producing the original and imitation paintings. It also sells national paintings, calligraphy, arts and crafts, sculptures and picture frames and paints as subsidiary, which forms an oil painting industry circle with Da Fen Village as the center and radiate to Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan, Jiangxi Provinces as well as Hong Kong and Macao. Since 2004, a lot of national leaders such as Wu Banguo, Li Changchun, Zeng Qinghong, Chen Zhili, Li Tieying, Hua Jianmin, Li Guixian had come to the village for investigation. The village also receives a series of awards such as “Cultural Industry Model Base”, “Cultural (Fine arts) Industry Model Base”, “Most Creative Industry Park of China 2006”, “Property Right Model Base of Guangdong Province”, “Most Beautiful (Village) Tourist Model Point of Humanities and History of Guangdong Province”, “Cultural Industry Model Base of Shenzhen” “Property Right Model Base of Shenzhen” and “Eight Spots of Longgang: Colorful Da Fen” and so on from the relevant departments and committees respectively. In October, 2007, Da Fen Village received the title of “Newcomer 2007: Most Valuable Brand Industry Park” from the Second “Innovative China and Harmonious World” Beijing Cultural Innovation Industry International Committees. The national cultural department also presented Da Fen Village with the “Excellent Export Cultural Product and Service Items” award.
